The Challenge

Ryan and Dawn invited nest to tender for work to their home and appointed us due to our approach, knowledge and confidence in carrying out the works. The main challenge involved the removal of a large internal load bearing sandstone wall along with the formation of two large external structural openings. This was to include the installation of a steel balcony with a frameless glass balustrade. All work was to be carried out whilst the clients lived on site and our goal was to complete before they gave birth to their first child.

The Solution

Working closely with the engineers and architects, we developed a strategy to carry out the structural alterations. We initially formed the two external openings and installed the steel beams before moving internally to remove the major internal walls and install the giant steel beams and posts. The beams were so heavy, around 500kg, it took 10 men to lift them through the front windows and into the house. Once these were carefully installed our team worked over the Christmas period to ensure the project stayed on track and our deadline was met. Our men then carried out the full fit out and liaised closely with the kitchen suppliers to ensure their installation fitted in with our overall program. 

The Results

The new space has transformed the way Dawn and Ryan live. The open plan kitchen living area looks stunning and leads out onto a cantilevered glass framed balcony with views into their garden. There's now a large family space where their new daughter can play with direct access through to the front dining room.

nest have just completed our kitchen renovation. Prior to us finding nest, several builders had already said they weren't able to do the job due to the significant structural work required. From the outset, Dene was completely unfazed by the extent of the work involved, and we had complete confidence in nest's ability to do the job well. We have not been disappointed. 

Dene managed the project brilliantly, and it is very clear he is an expert in his field. He organised everything, and rather than presenting us with problems, he gave us solutions. There were some unforeseen structural issues which delayed things slightly, but Dene kept us informed and we knew the project was in safe hands.

nest's tradesmen are brilliant; the quality of their work is exceptional, and they couldn't have been more polite and personable. They went out of their way to help and nothing was too much to ask. Dene's input in changing the design slightly, and his eye for detail, has been invaluable, and it has really enhanced the project. We are delighted with the end result. 

Debbie kept the show on the road from an administrative perspective, and Dene's hands-on, can-do approach really makes the whole thing run smoothly and efficiently. Dene was always available to discuss changes or issues, and he listened to everything we said. The inevitable snagging afterwards has also been dealt with expertly and efficiently.
