Stunning transformation of a four bedroomed house

Beautiful extension, reconfiguration and renovation of a four bedroom house in Glasgow's Giffnock area

The Challenge

Roanna and James have a four bedroom house in Giffnock that wasn't working for them in its current state. There was enough floor space within the property however they felt the rear of the house would benefit from reconfiguration, particularly the existing layout of kitchen, family room and dining room.

An existing central staircase was in an awkward location and made the adjacent rooms difficult to access. By moving the staircase, we reconfigured the house to flow better.

A rear extension would give more room to the back area and an attic conversion would allow an upstairs bedroom with an ensuite.

The house needed a full rewire, central heating system, decorative works and new flooring throughout.

The Solution

Major demolition work removed nine internal load bearing walls and some pretty heavy steel work was installed. The full rear elevation was removed alongside much of the existing roof. 

After removing the walls and installing the new steel, a new staircase was manufactured and installed creating much better use of the space and leading to the first floor level. Here we created a new master bedroom and ensuite with a dormer window out to the rear garden.

Downstairs the open plan kitchen leads to a dining room and open plan living space. We formed a utility room off the main kitchen, two new downstairs offices off the hallway and a large open hallway with the new stairs.

Externally we formed a wrap around decked area with direct access to the garden.

The client stayed in the house during the works and nest worked to ensure that the noise, dust and inconvenience were kept to a minimum.

The Results

The house has been completely transformed and the rear spaces now flow and function superbly. The large expansive kitchen is both functional and beautiful and the large sliding doors fill the space with daylight.

The new master bedroom adds an additional bedroom to the property and gives a touch of luxury with a new ensuite.
